Culm engineers bamboo into load-bearing structures, erosion barriers, and carbon-sequestering groves — replacing steel and concrete for highway departments, resort developers, and municipal engineers who need infrastructure that local crews can harvest and build themselves.

The material we build with
is dismantling the planet.

Steel and concrete built the modern world. They also account for nearly 15% of anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions. On eroding hillsides from Honduras to Sulawesi, conventional retaining systems fail within a decade. Highway departments pour more concrete. The slope erodes again. The calculation is broken.

Alternatively.

A grass that grows three feet a month, sequesters carbon at scale, and achieves tensile strength comparable to mild steel when properly harvested and processed. The engineering has been done. The question is specification.

Slope Stabilization & Erosion Barriers

Culm designs live bamboo retaining systems that combine root architecture with engineered culm matrices. Guadua angustifolia root networks penetrate 4–6 metres laterally, binding friable soils at angles up to 45°. Systems are specified with GPS-tagged installation grids, maintenance schedules, and ASCE 7-compliant load calculations delivered as stamped drawings.
